Enquête d'océan - kids workshop

Enquête d'océan is a kids participative investigation workshop about marine litter

The workshop was created for Surfrider Foundation Europe with the principles of participative sciences.
The first step was to explain to the kids what participative sciences are and what they are used for.
Then, we explained the objectives of the investigation workshop they had to do.

Each kid had a bag, gloves, and the investigation sheet. They had to sort out their bag full of marine litter found on the Basque coasts, classify, count, and guess for each object, where could it come fromThe aim was to start a dialogue with the kids, talk about waste, ocean pollutions and what we can do daily to reduce it.

The kids were with their parents, so obviously we had a chat with them too. They had different questions, they felt concerned. Interesting talks and visions.
The curiosity cabinet was created as a complement to the workshop.
We displayed the extraordinary things the ocean can bring back on the coasts, in order to start the conversation with people about consumption, plastics, single-use objects.

80 % of the plastics found in the ocean comes from the land, from cities, streets, rivers, accidental discharges etc.
10 % comes from maritime transport.
10 % comes from abandoned waste on the beachs.
